Week 4

This blog post is about my third Infocomm Studies lesson. In this week's IS lesson I learnt something called html. Html means "Hypertext Mark-up Language". It can be done in notepad. When you save your document, save it as the file name followed by ‘.html’. That will convert the notepad document from text to a webpage when you open it. But of course, you will have to type the page in html coding. Only then will the webpage you open be readable.

There are quite a few things in the html language, and you need to know them all if you want to add pictures or hyperlinks into your web page. You can do a lot of things in html – everything that you can do in Microsoft words – and more! You can change the background of your webpage as and when you like, and when you want to, put in photos according to your dimensions and pictures.

However, I do feel that it is much harder to type in things in html code than in Microsoft words. So, I feel that neither a website nor Microsoft words is indefinitely better – at the end of the day, it all comes down to what you like best.

Week 3

Today was my second IS lesson. I learned more things from it than the first IS lesson. I learnt how to participate in a forum talk, and much more about blogging. But the main thing that I learnt was the difference between a blog and a website.

A blog is easy to create, easy to manage, but you need to update it regularly. If you do not do that, your readers will get bored of your blog easily and simply stop reading your blog. Also, some readers might pester you when you do not update your blog daily, and that gets on your nerves. Thus, when you have not been using the computer for some time, you will feel some or a lot of pressure.

A website is harder to create. You need to know the code to the programming of a website, then you can set it up. This requires a lot of IT skills. However, you do not get the same kind of pressure from a website than from a blog. In a website, you can wait for a long time before your next post, and no one will say anything. So you do not need to worry about readers being discontented.

Week 2 - First IS Lesson

Today was my first IS lesson, and I learned a few things. I now know that the first Internet -called APRANET- was designed as a way for scientists to share their information with each other. No one person controls the Internet - everyone plays a part in keeping it going. Though some rules are set by certain organizations, it is still the people who keep it going.

People posts things on the Internet for others to read, and people read them. If there were nothing on the Internet, interesting on the Internet, it would not be running. That is what I have learnt in general in the first IS lesson.

Self Introduction

My name is Chuan Xin from 1P4. This is my first time blogging and I really hope to learn a lot more about blogging and progress from being a rookie to a pro. I really want to learn more about not just blogging, but how to create websites and stuff like that. Hwa Chong is becoming a future school, so we all need at least some IT skills, and I wish to acquire those skills in IS.
